Upstate voters in three districts had another chance to vote in three runoff races Tuesday following too-close-to-call races in the South Carolina primary.
In the highly contested Pickens County sheriff's race, voters chose between Republican candidates Rick Clark and C. David Stone, who was running for re-election. Stone has served as Pickens County Sheriff for 43 years.
With all precincts reporting, Stone lost to Clark by more than 1,600 votes, according to the South Carolina State Election Commission. Clark won 57.6 percent while Stone won 42.4 percent with more than 9,400 votes cast.
Voters in the State Senate District 8 Republican race returned to vote for either Joe Swann or Ross Turner. The election commission reported Turner had a mere 36 votes more than Swann with a total of 5,532 votes cast in 36 precincts.
Greenwood County voters voted for GOP Clerk of Court candidates Chastity Sheek or Angie Woodhurst. The election commission reported that Woodhurst won with 69 percent of the vote with all 44 precincts reporting. Nearly 3,800 voters cast ballots in the Greenwood County runoff.
These runoffs were some of the more than a dozen races held Tuesday across the state. Those who had the highest number of votes will appear on the general election ballot in November.
While many other candidates did not make it on the primary ballot at all because of rulings by the state Supreme Court, they are still fighting to collect signatures to petition to get onto the November ballots.
Those candidates have until July 15 to turn in their petitions and those who are approved by the South Carolina State Election Commission will be announced in August.
The polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. All results are unofficial until they are certified later in the week.
