COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A retired couple who lives in Taylors has added financial security after winning $100,000 recently.
The couple purchased a winning Muscle Car Money scratch-off ticket for $5 that was worth a whopping $100,000, South Carolina Education Lottery officials announced Tuesday.
"I've got a winner, but I don't believe it," she told her husband, who was driving them home from running errands, officials said.
The couple said they weren't convinced they won, so they turned around and returned to the Food Shop on Geer Highway in Marietta to have clerk confirm they won - and he did.
The winner's wife told lottery officials she started spending the cash in her mind right away - new paint for the house, refinished floors and gifts for their grandchildren. Her husband thought about a new truck and more breakfast trips to McDonalds with the family.
As of Tuesday, two top prizes of $100,000 remain in the $5 Muscle Car Money game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 312,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, the Food Shop received a commission of $1,000.
