EnviroDri, Priority Energy’s new air and moisture resistant barrier product, will provide builders with an easier, less expensive way to meet IECC 2012 and Energy Star 3.0 requirements by greatly reducing air infiltration and improving energy efficiency in new construction.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 26, 2012
Priority Energy will add the latest building science technology, Enviro-Dri Weather Resistant Barrier Systems, to their line of energy efficiency and home comfort services. EnviroDri is a spray coating that forms a seamless barrier around the house that is 97% more effective than traditional house wraps at preventing moisture, mold, mildew and air leaks. Builders can now offer more comfortable, durable and healthier homes and lower their construction costs with this one product. The IECC 2012 building code and Energy Star 3.0 now require a more air-tight building envelope which the EnviroDri Barrier system will help them to attain.
“We have seen the challenges builders face today, in meeting the IECC 2009/2012 codes and Energy Star 3.0 requirements. Over the past year, we have added the award-winning Aeroseal duct sealing process and Lifebreath clean air furnaces and HRVs to help contractors meet the more strict ventilation, indoor air quality and air infiltration standards. The addition of the Enviro-Dri Weather Resistant Barrier system is another outstanding product we feel will help homeowners and builders meet their goals; home comfort, home health and safety, and energy efficiency,” says Robert Schildgen, owner of Chicago’s leading energy solutions company, Priority Energy.
Energy efficiency is noted as the #1 objective for builders and home buyers today. A home’s efficiency is measured by a HERS Index, or Home Energy Rating System, which is the national measurement set by RESNET that allows easy comparisons and estimates of energy use and IECC 2009/2012. On average, an unprotected home today might range from 90 - 100 on the HERS Index. The lower the rating number the fewer air leaks are present. Tests have shown that homes treated with the EnviroDri sealant can have a HERS rating as low as 40 - 70. Priority Energy’s certified HERS raters can provide guidance on these new codes and standards.
One reason the Enviro-Dri WRB System is so effective is in the application. Housewraps are fastened to the sheathing with staples or nails. Those tiny holes and seams allow air and moisture to enter the home’s exterior envelope. Enviro-Dri’s polymer asphalt sealant is sprayed or rolled onto the entire face of the sheathing, sealing joints between panels and counterfacing around doors and windows, creating a seamless membrane that is completely weatherproof. It is a permeable seal which also prevents the build-up of trapped moisture that can lead to harmful mold and mildew.
