Happy Over-the-Hump Day! It's a beautiful, crisp morning - perfect for the joggers, dog walkers and even the front porch coffee-drinkers! Temperatures across the Upstate have been in the 50s and 60s, while WNC temps have mainly been in the 40s and 50s. These temperatures are cooler-than-normal lows for this time of year, so it feels a little more like a fall morning than a summer one.
The cool, crisp morning is owed to the dry air in place - that gave us a really nice day yesterday and will keep it pleasant today. Temperatures will be seasonal for late-June (mid 80s in WNC, upper 80s in the Upstate) but the lack of humidity will make it a dry heat. By this evening it will be really nice to head out for a walk (or to have dinner on your back porch)!
Humidity will bump up a bit on Thursday and Friday, but it will stay manageable these days. The bigger story for the end of the workweek will be the high heat. High temperatures will rise into the low 90s in the Mountains and mid 90s in the Upstate on Thursday. By Friday, highs will range from the mid 90s in WNC to 100° in the Upstate. These highs will be approaching records, so we'll have to keep an eye on that. Skies will stay bright tomorrow and Friday.
Over the weekend, temperatures will stay in the low triple-digits in the Upstate and the mid 90s in the Mountains. The difference, however, will be the increase in humidity. The muggier air will allow for potential Heat Advisories in the Upstate - as the heat index ('feels like') temperature may reach 105 degrees or more.
The increase in moisture this weekend will also help rain chances return. We aren't going to see much, but an isolated/widely-scattered PM storm chance will be with us on Saturday and Sunday.
Enjoy today... then get ready to heat things up!
