The Greenville mom of twins who has been battling with a flesh-eating bacterial infection has made significant progress with her therapy.

Greenville Hospital System officials released new photos and information on Lana Kuykendall's condition Friday.

Kuykendall has been recovering since May 11 when she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis and underwent 20 surgical procedures and other treatments.

Kuykendall has been at GHS's Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital for more than a week. Her husband Darren Kuykendall said she can now walk as far as 50 feet at a time with a walker.

She has physical and occupational therapy twice a day and is on a regular diet. Her tracheotomy device has been removed, and she can communicate normally with family, friends and her medical team.

Some of her occupational therapy actually involves her diapering and lifting a weighted baby doll in a fabric baby sling. Kuykendall gets to spend several hours a day with her twins, Abigail and Ian.

"Lana is a miracle, and we see it again and again every day," said Darren MrKuykendall. "We are profoundly thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers and for the excellent care Lana has received at Greenville Hospital System."

Friends and strangers continue to rally around the family. A benefit concert is scheduled for Saturday in the amphitheater adjacent to City Park in downtown Simpsonville. Tents and extra fans are being brought in to help the anticipated crowds deal with the heat.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. rain or shine or high heat. Admission is $5 and kids under age 12 are free. For more information visit the Faith-Hope-Lana website.
