COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Clarendon County plan to search through the night to find a child who has reportedly been abducted by his father, prompting an Amber Alert on Monday.

They are searching for 2-year-old Brandon Lee Dubose II and his father, 32-year-old Brandon Lee Dubose.

Deputies say the father followed the child's mother to a gas station in Sumter County and then took off with the boy at about 1:30 p.m.

In a press conference Monday night, deputies said the elder Dubose sent a text message to the mother saying he would harm the child. Investigators revealed the couple has a history of domestic problems.

Officers say the elder Dubose was stopped on a cornfield along Highway 261 and jumped out of the vehicle with the child.

Deputies believe the elder Dubose ran into a swamp, but based on the tracks, deputies think the man left the child somewhere along the way.

Several search crews and bloodhounds are scouring five square miles surrounding what they called a "thick, swampy area" where the elder Dubose was seen heading.

Deputies believe the elder Dubose may be armed, but maintain their primary focus is finding the child.

Brandon Dubose II is described as white, 2' tall and 30 pounds with red hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jean cargo shorts and black Nike sandals.
