GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A group in Easley is calling for the Upstate not to forget about the sacrifices our military has made for the country, especially Sgt. 1st Class Matthew "Brad" Thomas.
The National Guard Solider from Easley died in Afghanistan last month, leaving behind a wife and son.
A booth has been set up at the Easley Celebrate America event, and organizers are raffling off gift cards to local businesses.
All proceeds will go to the fallen soldier's family.
"Her husband is the image of America. He's a hero," said organizer Jacqueline Graham. "Our military doesn't get very good benefits, us the community, it's our job to step up and help this hero's family."
If you'd like to help to support the family, you can stop by the Fourth of July event in Easley. It runs from 2-11 p.m.
If you aren't able to make the event but would like to support the family, contact easleycommunityspirit@gmail.com.
