Deputies: Woman hits granddaughter with studded belt

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg woman was arrested Thursday after deputies said she beat her grandchild with a studded belt.

Deputies said they were called after someone noticed bruises on the 5-year-old girl's face and arms. They said the girl had been seen with her grandmother earlier in the day.

Investigators said they talked to 48-year-old Linda Crawford about the injuries. They said Crawford said she accidentally hit the girl with a belt that had metal studs on it.

Crawford was charged with cruelty to children. She was being held in the county jail.
