Spartanburg police have charged a woman with forgery and are searching for a male suspect in a counterfeit check scam involving the county clerk of courts.

Officers said Cheeks and another man were cashing checks with a routing number belonging to the Spartanburg County clerk of courts at local Walmarts.

Police arrested Courtney Cheeks, 23, on Friday and later released on a $5,000 bond.

Reports said Cheeks cashed a $1,500 check that appeared to be made out to her from a local business at the Walmart on Dorman Center Drive, and the check was connected to the county's account.

Police are also searching for a man named Tura Le Van Miller, 34, of Woodruff. They said he cashed a $1,400 check from the same account at the Walmart on East Main Street.
