PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters worked to battle a wildfire inside Table Rock State Park in Pickens that they said was sparked by lightning on Sunday.

Firefighters said lightning hit the back of the mountain, near an area where visitors were hiking and started burning. Firefighters said it took several hours to put out the wildfire.

Firefighters were concerned winds from the storm that sparked the fire might fuel the blaze but they were able to keep it from spreading.

The park's swimming area was used as a command center while crews were on scene. The park was closed to visitors on Sunday but is expected to reopen Monday morning.
