Good morning! Those of you who have been waiting on some relief from the heat will like the 7-day forecast, because we actually have some below-normal temperatures coming! Not today, though - our highs will remain hot this afternoon and it will stay humid, too. Highs today will reach the mid 90s in the Upstate and the upper 80s in WNC. By the second half of the week, highs will dip into the mid 80s in the Upstate and upper 70s in WNC.
Along with the cool-down will come some rain/t-storm activity. A frontal boundary will sag southward into our area today before becoming stationary through the end of the week/early part of the weekend.
The best chance of scattered rain and storms today will be in Western North Carolina, where you'll be closer to that frontal boundary. Storms will fire during the early afternoon - and they'll continue through the evening. Since the Upstate/NE GA spots will be a little farther from the front there will be a smaller chance of rain and storms there... but a few hit-or-miss storms will probably still develop later today in these areas (especially northern Upstate/GA Counties).
A few storms could be strong or severe, with hail or gusty winds possible. We'll keep the chance of rain/storms - and a few strong/severe storms - through the rest of the week. This will help to give us some much-needed rainfall... and model guidance suggests as much as 3+ inches in spots by the end of the week.
Despite the cool-down, dewpoints will stay high (in the mid/upper 60s) through the end of the week... so the humidity doesn't look to let up anytime soon!
