Spartanburg-based Denny's announced Monday that it plans to open 50 restaurants in China within the next 15 years.

The restaurant brand known for its breakfast dishes said that it has signed an agreement with Great China International Group to develop the new restaurants.

The new Denny's locations will be located in the southern Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Fujian,Guizhou, Jiangxi, Chongqing and Sichuan.

The first Chinese Denny's is expected to open in 2013, the company said.

Denny's President and CEO John Miller said the Chinese expansion is just the latest effort to internationally expand the brand.

"This significant development agreement is Denny's first major expansion in China and is the brand's largest international development agreement to date," Miller said. "This agreement builds upon the success the company has had in expanding the brand internationally with recent franchise openings in Honduras, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic."

Denny's, which bills itself as America's Diner, operates 1,680 restaurants across North America, the Caribbean and New Zealand.
