ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police said an SUV crashed into a broken down vehicle that was being moved from the roadway by three people Wednesday.

The crash happened at 1:06 p.m. near the intersection of Smoky Park Highway and Brookside Circle.

Police said that a vehicle, driven by 40-year-old Tammy Padgett, of Asheville, was traveling west on Smoke Park Highway when it crashed into two people who were trying to push a disabled vehicle out of the road, which was being steered by a third person.

The three people moving the broken down car were taken to Mission Hospital for treatment, police said. They said two of them suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the third person's leg had to be amputated.

Police said Padgett was cited for failure to reduce speed. They said the case was sent to the District Attorney's Office for review.
