GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The Centers for Disease Control offers advice on surviving all sorts of disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes and now weddings.
That's right - the big day where "I do's" are exchanged now comes with a CDC survival guide.
"I think that being prepared for a wedding is always important and thinking about every possible detail is very valuable," says Alexandra Barham, a wedding coordinator who owns Upstate I Do.
She comes prepared with an emergency kit in hand and knows how to survive a wedding day.
"We've got stuff like mouth wash or Pepto Bismol. You never know when someone is going to get a few butterflies so we try to prepare for those things as well," says Barham.
Of course there are people who question the importance of the CDC addressing wedding day jitters and all that can go wrong.
"Careful a bobby pin might stick you in the eye! I don't know I just don't feel like there's a big national crisis of bobby pin problems," says Kel Henry from Greenville.
If there ever was a risk of having a bobby pin disaster on your wedding day, the CDC is simply asking: Are you prepared?
The CDC says your emergency kit should include everything from bobby pins and extra makeup to water and snacks - even sedatives. You never know who's going to let cold feet get the best of them.
But surviving the wedding day extends far beyond bobby pin disasters, especially in the height of hurricane season.
The CDC recommends knowing the emergency plan for your wedding venue in case of bad weather like a tornado. They say the plan has to be better than crowding 200 guests into a windowless bathroom.
"In terms of rain, we always try to plan for inclement weather," says Barham.
After all, planning for the biggest and smallest disaster goes a long way.
