SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Boiling Springs man was sentenced to 18 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Prosecutors said Robert Horton, 41, was found guilty Thursday night of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor at the conclusion of a four-day trial.

Prosecutors said in May 2009 that the victim's mother contacted the Children's Advocacy Center for help for her daughter, who referred her to the sheriff's office.

The victim, who was 13 years old at the time of the report, detailed abuse that had gone on for a year, according to Solicitor Barry Barnette.

DNA evidence along with the victim's testimony was used during the trial. Horton also took the stand.

Horton will serve 80 percent his sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also have his name added to the sex offender registry.
