Comic-con Thursday

Posted: Updated:

So it's my first time back in 4 years and not much has changed. The show continues to grow, so much so that it spreads over the city in every direction.  The show simply has grown to large for the convention center, and that's saying something considering the exhibit hall alone is 460,000 sq ft. They created a 30,000 sq ft. exhibit area outside that was for all the Batmobiles used in the Batman films. The hotels themselves become giant billboards, and not even the trolley system or restaurants are off limits from the reach of the con.

For example, Mary Jane's, a restaurant in the Gas Lamp district, was once again taken over by SyFy channel. Everything, walls, menus, tables, chairs, staff clothing, was covered in promotional materials for their new show Defiance.

I spent the majority of the first day just wondering the exhibit floor and enjoying everyone's shared love of the show. The first couple of hours I spent was in the section housing most of the vendors selling comics. There is a bit of irony I think in the fact that the least crowded area of Comic-con is in the comic section of the exhibit hall. Compared to the other side of the exhibit floor which houses the movie and television companies that is so jam packed with people you can barely move.

Later in the day I attended the Stan Lee's World of Heroes press conference in which Stan Lee, Jace Hall, Peter David, America Young, Adrienne Curry, Mark Hamill and Bonnie Burton all talked about their various shows airing on the Stan Lee's World of Heroes YouTube channel in conjunction with Vuguru.  The various shows include scripted and unscripted formats and even opinionated views from the father of comics himself, Stan Lee.

After the press interviews concluded I headed back downstairs to enjoy the rest of the day. I spent it wondering from booth to booth, picking up free items along the way and wondering what the rest of the show had in store for me.
