An Upstate man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday after admitting to suffocating and strangling his girlfriend and then setting her home on fire last year.

Mitchell Guigou pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and third-degree arson.

Prosecutors said that Guigou and his girlfriend, Allison Pinsley, got into an argument on April 15, 2011. They said that Guigou hit Pinsley with a stick before putting a trash bag over hear head and tying an extension cord around her neck.

Guigou then set Pinsley's home on fire before diving out of a bedroom window, leaving her body inside, prosecutors said.
