Officials said a tanker truck carrying up to 8,800 gallons of gasoline overturned and was leaking fuel.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. Friday on Murphy Road, near Highway 247 in Belton. Firefighters were on the scene and working to clean up the mess.

About 20 homes along Murphy, New Hope and Tony Creek roads were evacuated.

Anyone living in the area was asked to head to shelters at Shady Grove Baptist Church or New Hope Baptist Church.

Firefighters said the biggest danger was the threat of fire.
