GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police said two women were hit by bullets in what officers said appeared to be a random drive-by shooting.

About 1 a.m. Thursday, officers said they were called to the Shemwood Crossing Apartments on Shemwood Lane where two victims, 13 and 23, had been shot, one in the hand and the other in the leg.

Police said the shooter was in a red or burgundy Ford or Mercury SUV.

This is not the first shooting at these apartments. Officer Alia Urps with Greenville police said they've responded to nine other shootings there this year.

Neighbors said the area, which used to be family-owned pastures, has gotten progressively worse over the years. They never know who will be outside and have guns.

Officers believe people in the area did see something and they hope people will come forward.

"Dealing with the police, sometimes people don't feel comfortable and they don't want to be considered somebody who's ratting somebody else out. That is an issue, so we want them to feel comfortable to call in anonymously and give information and that's what we depend on, we depend on the community to help us make arrests and make charges on those and hold them responsible," Urps said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
