TGIF! We'll keep Thursday's heat and humidity (how yucky was it outside yesterday?!?) in our Friday forecast - and we'll also add in the chance of afternoon/early evening storms.
Heat Advisories have been posted for our southern and eastern Upstate counties - as "feels like" temperatures could be as high as 107 degrees this afternoon. Upstate highs will reach the upper 90s, with heat index values generally between 100 and 105 degrees in most Upstate and NE GA spots. In the Mountains, highs will reach the upper 80s but the humidity will leave it feeling like it's in the low 90s.
A front will sink into the area this afternoon - and that combined with the high heat and humidity will trigger some showers and t-storms during the late part of the day. Some of the storms could be strong or severe, and the SPC has placed us in the Slight Risk area today (see here), meaning there's an elevated chance of strong or severe storms locally. The greatest storm threat is damaging wind gusts, but hail is also possible.
Please keep the storm threat in mind if you're watching baseball games in Easley or headed out to Bele Chere in Asheville. If you hear thunder or see lightning, get inside immediately. And definitely find a sturdy structure - not a booth or tent - as they won't offer much protection from the strong winds and frequent lightning.
Kendra and Andy will in the weather center later today - so stay tuned for updates. Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend!
