GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Gas prices in the Greenville area were 2.3 cents higher than last week, GasBuddy.com reported Monday.
The price-tracking website said the average cost for gallon of gas in Greenville was $3.12 - 38 cents lower than the national average of $3.50.
Locally, prices were 27.8 cents higher than last month, but 35.7 cents lower than last year. Nationally, prices were 12.1 cents higher than last month, but 20.2 cents lower than last year.
Experts said the pace of price hikes will likely increase.
"While motorists in many regions saw gasoline prices stabilize over the last week, it's only a matter of time before last week's rise in wholesale prices translates to a continued march higher on the retail level," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "The late week rally in stocks seemed to also fuel commodities higher, leading me to believe that pump prices will again pick up over the next week."
AAA reported the average cost for a gallon of gas was at $3.18 in South Carolina, $3.39 in North Carolina and $3.40 in Georgia.
