Many girls want to be a princess, but they don't ever get the chance except when playing dress-up.

One Upstate girl had her royal dreams granted when she was made queen for the day at her Greenville church.

Katy James, 16, recently learned she only had six weeks to live. Katy has always loved pageants, but her mom, Rita James, said the plans to honor her started on a different path a few months ago.

"She is the director of Salem's Bible school and she volunteered to do that back in April," said Rita James.

Her mom said all Katy wanted to do was volunteer, but her hospice nurses had a bigger plan in mind.  They wanted to name her "Queen of Bible School 2012" at Salem United Methodist Church in Greenville.

It was a surprise for Katy, and an honor considering everything she has been through this year.

"She has an inoperable brain tumor. She has been through chemo and radiation," said Rita James.

Despite her diagnosis, Katy got the royal treatment with a crown, sash, roses and special messages from several title holders in South Carolina.

"Everyone from here on out is for team Katy," said Miss Fountain Inn Anna Catherine English.

"I am just so blessed and honored to be here in your presence," said Miss Lyman Daja Dial.

It's a surprise that didn't have this new beauty queen at a loss for words. "God can bring anybody together and he is always here. He is always with us no matter what and doing amazing things," said Katy.

Katy's health has worsened over the last month and she is now in a wheelchair, but she says God has an incredible plan for her life.
