Westminster police chief suddenly resigns

WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Westminster's police chief suddenly resigned Monday night, according to City Administrator David Smith.

Smith said that Chief Scott Bannister turned in his resignation, but did not give a reason for his stepping down. The resignation was immediately effective.

Gordon Hopkins was appointed interim police chief while a new chief is found, Smith said.

Bannister had been with the department for 11 years.
