ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Anderson police said a 2-year-old was almost kidnapped from the library on Monday, but his dad punched the abductor before he could take his son.
Officers were called to the Anderson County Library at 300 North McDuffie St. about 4 p.m. when the boy's father said a man walked up to his son and asked if he wanted to go home with him.
The dad told police the stranger then grabbed the boy's hand and tried to take him away, so he stood up and punched the man in the face.
Police said the suspect ran away and the dad called 911. He was described as a white male with blonde, shaggy hair wearing a blue shirt.
Officers tried to locate the suspect but couldn't and said they were reviewing the library's surveillance footage.
The child was not taken and was uninjured, police said.
If anyone has any information on the attempted abduction, they're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
