2nd drive-by shooting in 1 week injures 2 in Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A drive-by shooting in Greenville left two young men wounded along S. Textile Avenue early Thursday morning.

This is the second drive-by shooting in Greenville in a week, and some neighbors are nervous it won't be the last.

Topeka Knuckles lives at the house where the shooting took place. She said her family grilled out earlier in the night and her nephews and their friends were chatting in the front yard. They told her a black truck drove by about 1:30 a.m. and started shooting.

"By the time I hit my bedroom door that's when the fire, the other shots, just started coming right behind each other and by the time I got to the front door, my nephew and the other dude had hit the ground, and he was like ‘oh my god I've been shot!'" Knuckles said.

Knuckles' nephew is 17. She said the bullet is still inside his leg and he will have to have surgery to get it out. Police said a 23-year-old was also shot in the side.

Knuckles said word on the street is that the shooters are part of a new gang, trying to make a name for itself, and causing trouble to do that.

Greenville police have not confirmed any suspects or gang relation. Last week, there was another drive-by. Two young women were shot and injured while standing outside the Shemwood Crossing Apartments.

The incident report does not give too much information, but the suspect's hairstyle was his defining feature.

If anyone has information, call the Greenville Police Department, or 23-CRIME to leave anonymous tips.
