GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As fall practices will begin on Friday, both the Clemson Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks have a lot to live up to as both teams are ranked in preseason polls.

The preseason USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Thursday ranked South Carolina ninth and Clemson 14th going into the 2012-2013 season.

South Carolina's ranking places them behind Southeastern Conference rivals LSU, Alabama and Georgia. Clemson's ranking places them behind Atlantic Coast Conference rival Florida State.

This is the fifth time since 1998 that Clemson has been ranked in the preseason of either the AP or USA Today preseason polls, and it is the second highest preseason ranking for the program since 1988.

South Carolina was ranked eighth in the final Coaches' poll, their highest finish in school history. They were ranked 12th in the preseason Coaches' poll in 2011.

Clemson's fall practices begin Friday at 5:45 p.m. The Tigers first game of the season is against Auburn in Atlanta on Sept. 1.

The Gamecocks begin fall practice on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Their first game is set for Thursday, Aug. 30 in Nashville against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
