Presbyterian College certified for NCAA Div. I

Posted: Updated:

The NCAA has approved Presbyterian's full certification as a Division I athletic program.

The school announced their NCAA status last week. Presbyterian previously competed in Division II and was granted provisional status in 2007. The school's athletic teams played against Division I opponents but just two of the 15 programs could compete in NCAA postseasons until the governing body's executive committee gave final approval.

Presbyterian had to complete a self-study that the NCAA reviewed during the certification process. A peer team also visited campus and submitted a positive recommendation to the NCAA last spring.

Presbyterian's 15 sports are eligible to compete for spots in postseason tournaments held by the Big South Conference and the NCAA.
