COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley was raised in the Sikh faith and is commenting on the deadly weekend shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.

The governor said on her Facebook page it's sad to see such a thing happen in a place of worship.

Haley said her prayers and condolences go out to the families of the victims and a police officer who also was shot. Six worshippers at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee were killed Sunday. The gunman was also killed.

Haley's parents immigrated to the United States from India and raised their daughter in their Sikh religion.

Haley married her husband in a Methodist service in 1996 and identifies herself as Christian. She said she attends both Methodist and Sikh services out of respect for her parents.
