A Williamston man drowned in Lake Hartwell in Anderson County on Monday.
Chad McBride, of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, said rescuers were called to the Singing Pines Recreation Area about 5 p.m.
McBride said witnesses saw a man trying to retrieve a float from the water when he went underwater and never returned to the surface.
Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman identified the man as 47-year-old James McClain.
There have been two drownings at the Singing Pines Recreation Area this year. On July 4, Crystal Lester, 33, drowned while swimming with her family. On May 12, Elio Segura, 33, also drowned while swimming with family.
