COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A bat found in a Simpsonville home tested positive for rabies, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control reported Monday.
Although officials did not say whether anyone was exposed to the animal, officials said people who awake to find a bat in their room should seek medical advice and have the bat tested.
"Bats have small teeth that might leave marks not easily seen," said Sue Ferguson, of the agency's Bureau of Environmental Health.
This is the second rabid animal found in Greenville County this year, officials said. They said 87 rabid animals have been found statewide this year.
