In a decision released Tuesday, the North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld the murder conviction of a man who killed a state trooper four years ago.
Edwardo Wong was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2010 for killing North Carolina Highway Patrol Officer Shawn Blanton during a June 2008 traffic stop along Interstate 40 in Haywood County.
Later, a deadlocked jury forced the judge to sentence Wong to life imprisonment without parole.
On Tuesday, the state appeals court said that the defense filed for an appeal of the conviction for three reasons - emotional testimony deprived Wong of a fair trial, prosecutorial misconduct and violation of right to silence and jury trial. Judges rejected all three arguments.
