BELTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A couple is still shaken after they said a burglar tried getting into their home Sunday night in Belton.

Henry and Bobbie Cherry said they were headed to bed Sunday night when someone started barging in the back door of their home.

According to Belton police reports, there was a report of suspicious activity prior to the incident at the Cherry residence. And they believe that same person was the one who tried to barge into the couple's home.

Witness descriptions state that the man had a mask over his head, making identification difficult.

"I didn't know whether he was going to really come in and hurt us, or kill us, or what. It's like I'm still having flashbacks at night, just seeing that mask," Bobbie Cherry said.

They were eventually able to force the would-be intruder away by threatening to call the police, and by saying they had a gun in the home.

"We've been here probably around 30 years, and we ain't ever had anything happen like this," Cherry said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Belton police.
