On Thursday, the rain came down with force as winds whipped around the Upstate. Thunder rolled in and lightning strikes put on a show.
When the strong storm pushed through Greenville County it toppled trees and roughed up roof tops.
"It was pretty scary, very strong winds," Scott Leonard said.
He heard the storm as he sat inside his home on Lynchester Road.
"I heard a big boom," Leonard said. "I heard the trees actually falling in my yard so, I took off running down the hall."
He made it to a safe place, but when the clouds cleared he found a huge tree on his roof.
"It took out my fireplace and put another hole halfway down my roof," Leonard said.
So, he called Schneider Tree Care to remove limbs and other trees that could cause another threat.
"We had calls for trees on houses and some were blocking driveways and things like that," Scott Carlson said.
Carlson is an arborist with the company. He said crews were spread throughout neighborhoods in the Pelham Road area.
"Anything from just a few limbs on the yard to a tree through the roof," Carlson said.
At another house on Lynchester Road a crew had to cut up a tree trunk, then use a crane to remove it. But back at Leonard's home, although many trees were down, he said he's thankful he's still standing.
"So, I'm just thankful to be here," Leonard said.
