SALEM, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Troopers said one person died in a one-car crash in Oconee County on Thursday morning.
The crash happened along Mack Reid Road, a two-lane gravel road, about 1 a.m. one mile north of Salem. Oconee County coroner Karl Addis said the crash was not reported until 6:10 a.m. when the victim was found by his uncle.
Troopers said the driver of a Jeep lost control while driving south, ran off the left side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned.
Addis said the man, 54-year-old Jerry Rowland of Salem, died from chest trauma and traumatic asphyxiation.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and no one else was riding in the vehicle, troopers said.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
