Police look for man seen breaking into Simpsonville cars

SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A homeowner's surveillance video shows a man break into their unlocked cars in what police said is part of an increase in autobreakings.

Simpsonville police said between July 14 and Aug. 7, there have a been a lot of autobreakings in the Poinsettia, Wemberly and Powderhorn subdivisions.

Lorraine Nelson said someone trashed her car on Aug. 7 and stole some items.

"They really didn't do damage inside of the car. They took the iPod, they took a knife," Nelson said.

She said the thief also broke an antenna from another truck in the driveway too.

"You just really feel invaded," Nelson said.

The surveillance video that came from another homeowner on Aug. 7 shows a thin-built male, approximately 6' tall, wearing glasses, and carrying a backpack, who enters cars that are left unlocked, police said.

The public is encouraged to always remove valuables from their vehicle, keep vehicle doors locked and report suspicious individuals.
