SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies had to shoot a man with a Taser to stop him from stabbing his wife Thursday night.

According to a Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were called to a home on Fairforest Clevedale Road about 11:20 p.m. for a fight.

Deputies said when they arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed in the thigh, yelling that 51-year-old Erwin Whitter, her husband, was trying to kill her.

While the deputy called for an ambulance, the report said Whitter lunged at the woman, stabbing her in the chest area. Deputies said she was stabbed multiple times in the neck and chest.

The deputy then shot Whitter with his Taser to stop him, the report said.

Both the woman and Whitter were taken to the hospital, then Whitter was taken to jail. He was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
