EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man is on the run after Pickens County deputies said he kidnapped a woman, nearly shot her in the head and then stole her car Thursday night.

Pickens County deputies said a witness called them when they saw the man attack the woman along Hanson Lane.

According to the incident report, the woman was getting in her car about 6 p.m. when her ex-boyfriend, 28-year-old Jameel Chalmers of Easley, came from behind her house and demanded to know where she was going while pointing a gun at her.

Chalmers then shot at her, with the bullet flying by her face leaving gunpowder burns on her face, the report said. The gunshot also muffled her hearing for a short time, deputies said.

The report said Chalmers beat her several times then made her get into her car and drive him to his house on Saluda Dam Road.

Deputies said the woman drove Chalmers to his house at gunpoint, when she saw a man in a truck nearby, so she jumped out of the car to hide from her ex-boyfriend.

Chalmers fled in her car, which was later recovered by Greenville County deputies on Paris Mountain, the report said. Deputies said the car was a 2010 Dodge Charger worth $20,000.

The woman was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital to be checked out. She told deputies that she had stopped dating Chalmers in March and thought he might have been drunk.

Deputies said were actively looking for Chalmers with active warrants for attempted murder, kidnapping and grand larceny.
