GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A former Highway Patrol trooper and Seneca man was sentenced to three years in prison for having child pornography.

Randy Quinn Jr., 34, was sentenced in a Greenville federal court Thursday for possession of child pornography, according to United States Attorney Bill Nettles.

Nettles said in May 2011 the Department of Homeland Security were investigating online possession and sharing of child porn in the Upstate when they discovered a network sharing files with the pornographic images that were traced back to Quinn's home.

On June 7, 2011, agents searched Quinn's home and seized a laptop that had thousands of images of child pornography, Nettles said.

Agents also discovered that Quinn, while on duty at Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, photographed unsuspecting minor girls in swimsuits as they played on the beach.

Sid Gaulden, of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, said Quinn was fired for improper conduct in June of 2011.

The DPS's website said Quinn graduated with the 82nd Highway Patrol class in 2006 and was assigned to York County.
