SPARTANBURG, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum is heading back to South Carolina for a fundraiser to benefit the state Republican Party.

The state GOP said the former Pennsylvania senator and presidential hopeful is headlining a party fundraiser happening Monday in Spartanburg.

"I am excited to be returning to Spartanburg," said Santorum in a South Carolina GOP press release. "The Upstate has a truly special place in the heart of my family. We made many great friends there over the past several years, and I am looking forward to returning to lend a hand in their efforts to ensure South Carolina continues to elect solid conservatives up and down the ticket."

Organizers said the event is the state GOP's kickoff event for the Upstate heading into the November general elections.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Chapman Cultural Center and tickets are available, starting at $25.

Santorum placed third in South Carolina primary in January. He pulled out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination in April.
