An unknown man entered a Greenville home before a girl scared him off with a knife, and deputies hope someone can identify the man.

On Aug. 14, a homeowner reported that her teenage daughter was alone at their Ragsdale Road home when she heard someone knock on the front door and attempt to open it, according to Anderson County deputies.

Deputies said the front door was locked, so the man tried another until he found that back porch door was unlocked.

As the man opened the door, the girl yelled, prompting him to close the door, deputies said. Because she was scared, the girl told deputies she went and got a knife.

Investigators said the man opened the door again and the girl screamed, he closed it then opened it a third time and took several steps inside, but then he saw the girl armed with a knife, so he fled on foot.

"I walked over here with it and I screamed get out of my house and his jaw dropped when he saw the knife and he walked out," said 17-year-old Erin Meehan.

Meehan told FOX Carolina she was not afraid to grab the butcher knife to defend herself. During the entire ordeal, she was on the phone with her mother, who said she could hear her daughter's screams and imagined the worst.

"She was defending herself, defending her house and I don't know a lot of 17-year-olds that can do that," said Erin's mother Eva Meehan.

Since last week, Erin Meehan worked with deputies to create a drawing of the man. She said seeing the sketch of the man brings back strong emotions too.

"Almost like seeing the guy; I did not want to look at it," said Meehan. "I almost started crying."

Deputies said the girl described the suspect as a white male, approximately 19 years old, just over 6' tall, weighing about 140 pounds and with dark hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt with blue and white long plaid shorts.

Deputies do not know why the suspect entered the home or what he intended to do.

Investigators ask anyone who can identify this male to contact the Anderson County Sheriff's Office at 864-260-4400 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
