COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A former Cherokee County deputy clerk admitted to stealing more than $60,000 from a child support fund run by the county.

Federal prosecutors said 40-year-old Melanie Sparks, of Gaffney, pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

Investigators said that Sparks, while employed in the county's child support section of the Clerk of Court's office, stole money from cash receipts between January 2008 and November 2009.

Sparks will be sentenced at a later date, but faces up to $250,000 in fines and/or 10 years in prison.
