An Upstate man is accused of throwing gasoline on a woman then setting her on fire in Fountain Inn.

Fountain Inn police said Jason Medlin threw the gasoline on the woman with whom he has a history with then set her on fire.

Police were called to a Fairview Street duplex Friday where they believed the attack occurred. Police told FOX Carolina on Friday that the man was burned but did not release any further information at the time.

Police had closed off the building near Looneybrook Drive as they investigated what happened.

According to police, Medlin and the woman had a history of violence between them. They said the woman was taken to the Augusta Burn Center with second and third-degree burns covering 20 to 40 percent of her body. Officers said Medlin was also burned.

Medlin was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He is being held at the Greenville County detention center on no bond.

Police Chief Keith Morton said it was the first time in his 37 years of law enforcement that an altercation has ended with someone set ablaze.
