A Spartanburg woman was arrested after police said she neglected her elderly, bed-ridden mother, leaving her to lie in her soiled diapers and bed.
Spartanburg Public Safety and adult protective services officers went to check on 50-year-old Brenda Lundeen's mother at a home on Pearl Street on Friday.
When they arrived, they had to climb over a locked fence to get to the back door and wait for Lundeen to answer, according to the police report. Police said when Lundeen answered the door, she told them she was "feeding mama."
As officers checked on Lundeen's mother they discovered she was lying in her urine-soaked diapers and bed, she had bed sores, a rash on her neck, bruises on her arm and her oxygen tube was clogged with mucus, according to the report.
The report said the home smelled of urine and feces, and it was a fire hazard.
As police explored the home, they said there were bugs in the kitchen, a cat litter box had not been cleaned in a long time, the refrigerator was full of mold and mildew, and stuff was stacked throughout the home making the only escape route through a mud room door off the kitchen.
Lundeen's mother was taken into protective custody and Lundeen was arrested. She was charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult.
When police spoke with Lundeen's brothers, they said they had not seen their mom for several months because Lundeen would not let them inside the home.
Lundeen was later released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
