SURPRISE, AZ (CBS5) -

One of two people charged in the shooting and stabbing of a medical marijuana provider has pleaded guilty to a lesser murder charge.

Jesse Gillen, 30, and Stephanie Conley, 31, faced charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, burglary and murder in the Aug. 6, 2012, homicide of the certified provider, but Conley on Monday pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Gillen still faces the original charges.

Judge Rosa Mroz set Conley's sentencing for 10:30 a.m. April 25.

Police said on Aug. 6, 2012, they found two men on the floor at a home near Greenway and Grand. They also found a firearm and two knives.

One of the suspects died and the homeowner, who was shot once and stabbed several times, was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Surprise police said the unidentified homeowner was a certified medical marijuana provider. They also confirmed marijuana plants were grown at the home. They said three suspects forced their way into the home to commit a robbery by stealing marijuana.

At least one gunshot was fired that struck the victim, and then the confrontation became a knife fight, police said.

Police said Conley left the scene in a vehicle but was later caught and now faces charges.

Both Conley and Gillen have prior arrests for marijuana and weapon charges.
