FL man charged in Upstate crime spree

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said they arrested a Florida man Friday in connection with a rash of thefts across the Upstate.

Deputies said that 46-year-old John Witt, of Leigh Acres, FL, arrived in the Upstate area on July 27. They said that since his arrival, Witt has stolen property from locations in not only Spartanburg County, but also in Cherokee and Greenville counties, and Cleveland County, NC.

Investigators said they have been able to recover six stolen trailers, but want to know if anyone has recently purchased anything from Witt.

Witt was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and receiving stolen goods in Spartanburg County. Deputies said they may charge Witt with more crimes in the future. They said other jurisdictions may also charge Witt in connection with crimes there.

Anyone who has had business dealings with Witt was asked to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office Property Crimes Unit at 864-503-4605.
