MAULDIN, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

A Mauldin city official has been charged with kidnapping after a woman said he gave her beer during a job interview then would not let her leave the property.

Police said public works director William Greg Fincher, 51, was arrested after he would not allow a woman applying for a job to leave the department.

The warrant states that the woman got away Thursday by climbing an 8-foot chain link fence. The warrant said the woman hurt her hand in climbing the fence.

According to the incident report, officers were first called about a burglary when someone saw the woman climbing over the fence. When officers pulled the alleged suspect's vehicle over, she told officers she had to climb the fence because Fincher would not let her leave.

The woman said she went in for a job interview and Fincher offered her a beer, which she said she thought was odd but took one anyway, the report said.

The woman said Fincher drank four tall boys while asking her what she would do for a job, but she said she would not sleep with someone to get a job and asked to leave, according to the report. When she asked Fincher to open the locked gate, he wouldn't, so she told him she would climb it, the report said.

Fincher was brought into the police station during the investigation. The report said he became very angry and appeared intoxicated.  Mauldin police charged Fincher with kidnapping.

City Administrator Trey Eubanks said Fincher has been placed on paid administrative leave. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
