A Union woman is accused of provoking her daughter into fighting another girl, police said.

Union police said they were called to a disturbance along Lybrand Street on Sunday about 3:10 p.m. where two girls had been fighting. Police said both girls had marks on them.

One of the girls told police that Melissa Jones, 32, had provoked the fight, telling her daughter to hit the girl, according to an incident report.

Police said the one girl claimed Jones pushed her several times so she slapped her in return, though Jones denied she touched the girl claiming she was slapped for no reason.

Jones was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The two unnamed juveniles were also arrested.

Jones said she is innocent and her daughter was a victim of bullying. She said she was trying to break up the fight.
