COLUMBIA, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said during a news conference Tuesday that an arrest has been made in Gabrielle Swainson's disappearance.

Swainson has been missing for more than a week from her Northeast Columbia home, but authorities have yet to find her.

WIS reported that Lott announced the arrest of 52-year-old Freddie Grant, who was charged with kidnapping. Lott said Grant is an acquaintance of Swainson's mother.

He said investigators believe Grant forced the girl in her pajamas from her home and took her to his Elgin-area home the morning she went missing. He said investigators found duct tape inside his home with her blood on it.

Lott said investigators and FBI agents are searching the junkyard across the street from Grant's home for Swainson. He said they also tracked her cell phone to the Elgin area.

The teen was last seen by her mother asleep in their Columbia home Aug. 18 when she went to work. When the mom returned several hours later, her daughter's alarm clock was ringing, but she was nowhere to be found.

Lott said there was no forced entry into the home. Grant had been cutting the grass at the Swainson home on Aug. 17, according to WACH FOX.

The family said the teen took no clothes, and the only thing missing from the home was her cell phone.

Lott said investigators are checking to see whether Grant is involved in the disappearance of a 28-year-old woman last year. WACH FOX reported that Adriana Laster was last seen with Grant on Sept. 3, 2011.

The FBI and state agents have joined the search for the teen.
