SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said a pair of men used an empty iPad box and distraction to steal a box containing a tablet computer.

The theft happened Aug. 13 at the Walmart store on Dorman Centre Drive.

Police said that a man wearing a red shirt walked into the store and asked to inspect an iPad. They said as the clerk was getting the keys for the cabinet, the man kneeled down in front of the cabinet, pulled out an empty iPad box and hid it under the cabinet.

Investigators said that when the clerk handed the man a box containing the tablet computer, a second man, wearing a green shirt, distracted the clerk. They said that was when the first man swapped the boxes. They said that when the clerk returned to the first man, he said he did not want the iPad and placed the empty box in the cabinet for the clerk.

Anyone with information about the theft was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
