SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A baby who deputies said nearly drowned in a bathtub at a Spartanburg inn last week died Tuesday, and the baby's mother was charged in connection with the death.

Deputies said on Aug. 20, they were called to the Brookwood Inn on College Drive after dispatchers received several calls about a possible infant drowning in a room.

The 10-month-old girl was taken to a local hospital, deputies said.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the girl, identified as Aaliyah Williams, died Tuesday.

On Thursday, deputies said they charged 21-year-old Mary Williams, of Spartanburg, with homicide by child abuse in connection with the girl's death.

According to an arrest warrant, Mary Williams left the baby alone in a bathtub filled with water.

Williams was denied bond by a judge Friday morning. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years in prison.
